Representative Thornberry Committee Assignments: Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence Committee on Armed Services Committee on the Budget Select Committee on Homeland Security Subcommittee on Cybersecurity, Science, and Research & Development He scored very poorly on the The ACLU's National Freedom ScoreCard. I sent Representative Thornberry an email urging him to support corrections to the USA PATRIOT Act, investigative guidelines and other government actions that threaten civil liberties. His reply letter stated "The new, more dangerous threats to the lives of Americans here at home require new law enforcement and security measures." What in tarnation is he talking about? New threat? More dangerous threat? Toro caca. Americans have always been threatened by terrorists. It's just a shame the American government has never been able to protect its citizens from terrorists even though the citizens pay outrageous taxes for the government to protect them. His letter also states " ...I believe Congress and the courts must continually oversee the use of the "Patriot Act" to ensure that our vital liberty is protected. Lets see now, a Republican Congress, and Republican courts are going to ensure that my vital liberty (me being an independent) is protected. Representative Thornberry, I've got some ocean front property in Arizona I'd like you to look at. I requested Representative Thornberry be honorable and investigate the election 2004 vote irregularities. His reply He didn't answer my request. Thanks Repesentative Thornberry. I know who you work for. I sent Representative Thornberry an email urging him to oppose George Dubya's plans regarding Social Security. His reply letter stated "Estimates are that about 2018 benefits will begin to exceed payroll taxes.." The fact is that, as the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office estimates, without a single policy change, the Social Security system can pay full benefits through 2052. His letter also stated "We should also consider allowing younger workers to put a portion of their payroll taxes into a personal retirement account. Such accounts would be controlled, and the money would not be available for daily expenses." The fact is that, as long as sonny boy has control over his social security investments, just as he does over his 401K, it ain't likely he will see the rate of return he is seeing now. Do ya'll remember a couple of years ago when the stock market tanked? How many thousands of dollars did your 401K lose? Mine lost several thousand. That's what you can expect from Social Security if George Dubya gets his way. The easy and nonexpensive fix is to just increase the Social Security payroll tax rate when need be. He continues "The President has stated that the benefits of those currently receiving Social Security, and of those soon to be eligible, must be preserved." C'mon Representative Thornberry, this is the same President that stated Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction. We'all know that was a lie! I sent Representative Thornberry an email demanding to know whether he thought Tom DeLay should have been re-elected as Majority Leader, and whether or not he voted to change the ethics rule that allows indicted members of Congress to stay in leadership positions. His reply letter stated "As you have heard, the Republican members of the U.S. House recently modified rules regarding the actions to be taken if a member of the party's leadership is indicted. OK? I guess that doesn't answer my questions. He continues "As for Tom Delay, it is obvious that he has earned the confidence of House Republicans. He was re-elected to the position of Majority Leader by a unanimous vote of the House Republican Conference last month." There it is. Mac Thornberry voted to re-elect Tom Delay (the most rebuked Representative in U.S. history). He never answered my question about whether or not he voted to change the ethics rule that allows indicted members of Congress to stay in leadership position. What a Republican. |
